لَاۤ اُقۡسِمُ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ‏ ﴿۱﴾

Nay, I swear by this city - ﴾1﴿

وَاَنۡتَ حِلٌّ ۢ بِهٰذَا الۡبَلَدِۙ‏ ﴿۲﴾

And thou art an indweller of this city - ﴾2﴿

وَوَالِدٍ وَّمَا وَلَدَۙ‏ ﴿۳﴾

And the begetter and that which he begat, ﴾3﴿

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا الۡاِنۡسَانَ فِىۡ كَبَدٍؕ‏ ﴿۴﴾

We verily have created man in an atmosphere: ﴾4﴿

اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّنۡ يَّقۡدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ اَحَدٌ‌ۘ‏ ﴿۵﴾

Thinketh he that none hath power over him? ﴾5﴿

يَقُوۡلُ اَهۡلَكۡتُ مَالاً لُّبَدًاؕ‏ ﴿۶﴾

And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: ﴾6﴿

اَيَحۡسَبُ اَنۡ لَّمۡ يَرَهٗۤ اَحَدٌؕ‏ ﴿۷﴾

Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? ﴾7﴿

اَلَمۡ نَجۡعَل لَّهٗ عَيۡنَيۡنِۙ‏ ﴿۸﴾

Did We not assign unto him two eyes ﴾8﴿

وَلِسَانًا وَّشَفَتَيۡنِۙ‏ ﴿۹﴾

And a tongue and two lips, ﴾9﴿

وَهَدَيۡنٰهُ النَّجۡدَيۡنِ‌ۚ‏ ﴿۱۰﴾

And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? ﴾10﴿

فَلَا اقۡتَحَمَ الۡعَقَبَةَۖ‏ ﴿۱۱﴾

But he hath not attempted the Ascent - ﴾11﴿

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا الۡعَقَبَةُؕ‏ ﴿۱۲﴾

Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - ﴾12﴿

فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍۙ‏ ﴿۱۳﴾

(It is) to free a slave, ﴾13﴿

اَوۡ اِطۡعٰمٌ فِىۡ يَوۡمٍ ذِىۡ مَسۡغَبَةٍۙ‏ ﴿۱۴﴾

And to feed in the day of hunger. ﴾14﴿

يَّتِيۡمًا ذَا مَقۡرَبَةٍۙ‏ ﴿۱۵﴾

An orphan near of kin, ﴾15﴿

اَوۡ مِسۡكِيۡنًا ذَا مَتۡرَبَةٍؕ‏ ﴿۱۶﴾

Or some poor wretch in misery, ﴾16﴿

ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالصَّبۡرِ وَتَوَاصَوۡا بِالۡمَرۡحَمَةِؕ‏ ﴿۱۷﴾

And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. ﴾17﴿

اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَيۡمَنَةِؕ‏ ﴿۱۸﴾

Their place will be on the right hand. ﴾18﴿

وَالَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا بِاٰيٰتِنَا هُمۡ اَصۡحٰبُ الۡمَشۡـَٔـمَةِؕ‏ ﴿۱۹﴾

But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. ﴾19﴿

عَلَيۡهِمۡ نَارٌ مُّؤۡصَدَةٌ‏ ﴿۲۰﴾

Fire will be an awning over them. ﴾20﴿
